The Nordic aviation marked has long been a static one with the Norwegian-SAS duopoly and a number carriers in the background. Now the situation is about to change and dramatically so.
The British-based regional flybe announced it would enter into a joint-venture with Finnair. The flybe-explansion may be the latest development but is not the only one in the Northern Europe in recent months.
Another regional carrier, Swedish Skyways, has been gathering momentum for quite a while. First, the carrier expanded its route network with 50%, thereafter Skyways announced it would take over another Swedish airline – City Airlines.
Hardly had all this happened, when the next move came. This time it was the struggling Danish carrier Cimber Sterling that became the object of interest of Mansvell Enterprises which owns Skyways. The goal is to create a new and strong player on the Nordic market.
The situation is getting interesting insomuch as both new enterprises seem to have the very same purpose. On our part we promise to keep you up to date with the development.
