Comparison of Prices of The Busiest Airports in UK

Back to news

Our recent research on prices at UK airports reveals that London Stansted ranks as the cheapest in UK. The cost of flights from Stansted is on average £0.05198 per kilometre, while from London Heathrow the prices are £0.15926 which makes the biggest UK airport 3 times more expensive. Which other airports are the cheapest?

Three cheapest airports are located in London Although Heathrow is the most expensive in our list, on the other hand London also has three cheapest airports: we already mentioned first Stansted with £0.05198 per kilometre, second Luton offers £0.06241 and the cost of flights from the third Gatwick is £0.07221 per km.

Also Bristol with £0.08034, East Midlands £0.09267 with and Newcastle with £0.09772 have prices under £0.1, all other airports are more expensive (see more data in the table below).

Heathrow is the most expensive airport in Europe The fact that London Heathrow is the most expensive in UK might not come as such a surprise, however the fact that it is also the most expensive airport in Europe is quite a new discovery. Although it is the biggest airport in Europe, the difference in prices is quite large in comparison with the most of airports in top 10 – e.g. the second busiest airport in Europe, Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), has only £0.09180 per km on average. There are only 2 airports that have similar prices – German Frankfurt with £0.15618 and Munich with £0.15618 (see more data in the table below).

Methodology WhichAirline.com compared prices from all airports in Europe, using average price per 1 kilometre of flight for air tickets available for purchase in the following months. Air ticket prices are taken from the WhichAirline database. The average ticket price per km was used as a way to compare the overall price levels.
